After Ejuke, another Super Eagles forward named top dribbler in big-five European league
Published: October 13, 2024Nantes winger Moses Simon has followed in the footsteps of another Super Eagles forward Chidera Ejuke by being named the top dribbler in a top-five European league.
Sevilla star Ejuke is La Liga's stat leader for dribbles completed, registering 28 across eight games to place first ahead of Ballon d'Or 2024 nominees Lamine Yamal (27), Kylian Mbappé (23) and Vinícius Júnior (20).
Ligue 1 officially revealed on Sunday evening that Moses Simon is the top dribbler in the French top flight.
The Nantes forward has completed 25 dribbles this season, the most of any player since the start of the campaign.
The French top-flight is blessed with a lot of talented dribblers like the Paris Saint-Germain duo of Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola but the Nigerian forward topping the chart is evidence of his rich vein in form.
Simon has started all Nantes' games in the French top-flight this season and has been decisive in all but three games, scoring two goals and registering two assists.
For four consecutive games, the 29-year-old either scored or assisted, starting with his goal in the 2-0 win over AJ Auxerre and finishing with his assist against Angers SCO on matchday five.
He has been able to replicate his form for Super Eagles, creating the assist in the 1-0 win over Libya on Friday in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, picking up the run of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who poked the ball home with a first-time effort.
Simon will be hoping to continue his form when Nigeria face the Mediterranean Knights on Tuesday at Benina Martyrs Stadium in the second leg of the AFCON qualifiers.
