Talented midfielder Jimoh-Aloba becomes first Nigerian player to score for Aston Villa in Uefa Youth League
Published: November 06, 2024Promising midfielder Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba became the first player of Nigerian descent to score for Aston Villa in the UEFA Youth League after scoring his first goal in the competition during a 6-2 win against Club Brugge on Wednesday, November 6.
For the fourth consecutive game in the UEFA Youth League, Jimoh-Alaba lasted ninety minutes on the pitch.
Club Brugge began with intent, taking the lead just six minutes in through Jessi Rémy-Nzuzi Pedro Da Silva.
However, Aston Villa quickly rallied, with Bradley-Paul Burrowes equalizing in the 25th minute, beating Brugge's keeper Argus Vanden Driessche.
Aston Villa continued to battle back, and while Club Brugge momentarily regained the lead through an Alejandro Granados penalty, Villa's Ben Broggio countered with a penalty of his own in the 39th minute to level the score once more.
An own goal by Brugge's Wout Verlinden in the closing minutes of the first half gave Aston Villa a 3-2 lead heading into the break.
The second half was dominated by Aston Villa, adding three more goals to secure a comfortable victory.
In the 72nd minute, Jimoh-Aloba scored Villa's fourth goal, marking a milestone in his Youth League season.
His teammate Mason Cotcher then scored twice in quick succession, sealing the game with assists from Rowe and Patterson.
Jimoh-Aloba's performance adds to an impressive campaign in the UEFA Youth League, where he has scored one goal and provided an assist across four matches.
His form has also translated to the Premier League 2, where he has netted two goals and registered one assist in eight games, showcasing his skill and potential for the English club.
