Potential move to Greece? Sevilla forward Iheanacho makes decision over transfer to Panathinaikos
Published: January 23, 2025
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has turned down a move to Panathinaikos, preferring to wait for a more enticing offer.
The 28-year-old striker, who has struggled to make an impact at Sevilla since joining the club on a free transfer last summer, had been linked with a move to the Greek Super League giants.
However, according to Radio Sevilla, Iheanacho was not convinced by Panathinaikos' offer and has decided to put his departure from Sevilla on hold.
The Nigerian forward and his entourage are reportedly holding out for a better offer, with clubs in England believed to be interested in his services.
Iheanacho's decision to reject Panathinaikos' offer is a clear indication that he is not willing to settle for just any club.
The attacker, who has a proven track record in the Premier League during his time at Leicester City, is believed to be keen on playing for a club that can offer him regular first-team football and a chance to revive his career.
Sevilla, who are looking to overhaul their squad in the January transfer window, may be forced to reconsider their options after Iheanacho's rejection of Panathinaikos' offer.
The Spanish club had been hoping to offload the Nigerian striker, who has failed to score in La Liga this season, but may now have to wait for another offer to come in.
Iheanacho's situation at Sevilla is complicated, with the striker having fallen down the pecking order under manager GarcĂa Pimienta.
However, he remains confident that he can turn his career around and is willing to wait for the right opportunity to come along.
