Announcement imminent: West Ham to sign young striker with 17 career goals amid Awoniyi links
Published: February 02, 2025West Ham United's search for a striker in the January transfer window is about to come to an end, with an announcement of a new forward signing imminent.
According to Sky Sports UK, the Hammers have agreed a deal with Brighton & Hove to sign Evan Ferguson on a straight loan until the end of the season.
Although hugely talented, the 20-year-old Ferguson, who has 17 career goals to his name for the Seagulls, has struggled for playing time this season, with only four starts in all competitions.
West Ham's imminent signing of the Republic of Ireland international means out-of-favour Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi is unlikely to join the Londoners in this transfer window.
Nottingham Forest made it clear that the Super Eagles star will remain at the club during the winter transfer market unless they bring in a replacement.
A day before the close of the transfer window, the two-time European champions have not signed a new forward.
Awoniyi has found it difficult to break into the starting lineup due to Chris Wood's impressive form, and this is unlikely to change for the remainder of the season.
Wood bagged a sensational hat-trick as Nottingham Forest thrashed Brighton & Hove 7-0 on Saturday, taking his tally to seventeen goals in twenty-four Premier League matches in the process.
Awoniyi has not started a Premier League game since Forest's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal on November 23, with his next ten top-flight appearances coming off the bench.
