Announcement imminent: Super Eagles striker passes Middlesbrough medical ahead of unveiling
Published: February 03, 2025
Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho has successfully completed his medical at Middlesbrough ahead of his imminent unveiling, Sky Sports journalists Anthony Joseph and Keith Downie have reported.
The Super Eagles forward is set to join the Championship side on loan from Sevilla until the end of the season, with Middlesbrough securing an option to make the move permanent.
The deal marks a significant addition for Michael Carrick’s side as they push for promotion to the Premier League.
Iheanacho, who has been linked with a return to England throughout the transfer window, was given permission by Sevilla to travel for his medical after being left out of training on Sunday.
The 28-year-old had attracted interest from Greek clubs PAOK and Panathinaikos, as well as Italian side Venezia, but he prioritized a move back to the UK.
Middlesbrough will reportedly cover the majority of Iheanacho’s wages, amounting to approximately €2 million (N3 billion).
The former Leicester City striker arrives at the Riverside Stadium with a wealth of experience, having won the FA Cup with the Foxes in 2021.
Currently seventh in the Championship with 44 points from 29 games, Middlesbrough will be hoping Iheanacho’s arrival provides the attacking boost needed to secure a playoff spot or even challenge for automatic promotion.
An official announcement from the club is expected soon.
