The world's football coaching space has a rarity of Nigerians. However, Akan Okomoh is one of such few names that is bent on changing such narratives.
The 32-year-old Finnish-Nigerian coach has been at the helm of Finland's U-17 women's team since 2022.
Born July 14 1992, Okomoh grew up in Finland and developed a passion for football from a young age.
He played football professionally for Finnish sides Malmin Palloseura and Atletico Malmi, before hanging up his boots in 2019.
He began his coaching career in the Finnish Football Association's youth development program and boasts a UEFA A Coaching License to his name.
A former member of Finland U19 women's coaching crew, he was also a member of the coaching crew for U17s who featured at the 2022 UEFA Women's Euros for that age category.
Okomoh's coaching philosophy is centered around developing the technical skills of his players, while also fostering a strong team communication.
He is known for his attention to detail and his ability to get the best out of his players.
Under Okomoh's guidance, Finland's U-17 women's team has shown significant improvement.
His experience working with young players has been invaluable, and his ability to connect with his players has earned him a reputation as a coach who truly cares about the development of his players.
While Okomoh continues to lead Finland's U-17 women's team, he will look to give it his all and leave no stone unturned in his pursuit of success.
With the qualification for the 2025 UEFA U17 Women's Championship set to begin, Okomoh will look to qualify his side for the tournament which will be hosted by the Faroe Islands in May 2025.
