Three dual-national forwards Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle must convince to play for Nigeria

Malian tactician Eric Chelle has been entrusted with the responsibility of securing Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and leading the Super Eagles to glory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Despite inheriting a squad blessed with attacking talent, the recent form of some Nigerian forwards at both club and international levels has been concerning.

As a result, discussions have intensified about integrating dual-national players to bolster the squad and increase competition.

Allnigeriasoccer.com highlights three dual-national Nigerian forwards whom Eric Chelle should attempt to convince to switch allegiance to Nigeria and strengthen the Super Eagles' attack.

Emanuel Emegha

Born in the Netherlands, Emanuel Emegha is eligible to represent Nigeria through his mother and Togo through his father, despite featuring for the Dutch youth teams.

The 22-year-old has been in exceptional form for Strasbourg in Ligue 1, scoring ten goals and providing two assists in 17 league games.

His dynamism and finishing ability make him a strong candidate to enhance Nigeria’s forward line, especially with Victor Boniface and Taiwo Awoniyi struggling at the international level.

Emegha’s inclusion could add much-needed firepower to the Super Eagles' attack.

Jacob Murphy

Jacob Murphy has played a crucial role for Newcastle United, helping the Magpies reach the Carabao Cup final under Eddie Howe.

The Nigeria-eligible winger has been a key component of Newcastle’s attacking trident alongside Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

Born in the United Kingdom, the 29-year-old is eligible to represent Nigeria through his father.

This season, he has registered four goals and seven assists in 22 Premier League matches.

His creativity in wide areas would provide Chelle with an alternative option, particularly given Samuel Chukwueze’s dip in form in Serie A.

Murphy’s experience in top-flight football could be invaluable to the Super Eagles.

George Ilenikhena

AS Monaco’s George Ilenikhena has been making waves in Ligue 1 with his impressive ability to unsettle defenders.

His standout performance in the UEFA Champions League against Barcelona further demonstrated his potential on the big stage.

The 18-year-old Nigerian-eligible forward came off the bench to score the winner against the Spanish giants, showcasing his intelligence and composure in front of goal.

With some Nigerian forwards struggling for consistency, Ilenikhena could provide both competition and support for Victor Osimhen in the attack.

His versatility, allowing him to play behind the main striker, offers Chelle an additional tactical dimension to break down opponents.

Given France’s interest in his services, Nigeria must act swiftly to secure his commitment to the national team.
