Super Eagles GK Okoye labels Galatasaray Turkey's number one team, sparking transfer speculation
Published: February 20, 2025
Writing on social media, Maduka Okoye has sparked transfer speculation by labelling Galatasaray as the top club in Turkey, ahead of Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce and Besiktas.
Galatasaray is considered Turkey's most successful football club, boasting 24 Turkish Super Lig titles, 18 Turkish Cup victories, and 17 Turkish Super Cup triumphs.
The club has also made its mark in Europe, winning both the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
Despite signing a new deal with Udinese last August, the future of Okoye at the Bianconeri is hanging by a thread as he is at the center of a betting scandal that could lead to a ban from football.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper will not play competitive football again this season at club level as Udinese have excluded him from their squad list for the Italian top-flight.
Logically, he is also unlikely to be named in Nigeria's squad for next month's crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe due to his inactivity at Udinese.
It is claimed that Okoye has been offered a transfer to Galatasaray ahead of the reopening of the transfer window, and his reaction to a question about the club was perceived as a hint towards a possible move to the Istanbul giants.
Okoye responded to the message, "If Osimhen is your friend, you should come to Galatasaray," by saying, "Galatasaray is definitely Turkey's number one."
Okoye lists DJK SC Flingern 08, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen, Sparta Rotterdam and Watfrod as his previous clubs.
