Published: May 15, 2012
Hapoel Tel Aviv have defeated Maccabi Haifa 2-1 to win the State Cup. Tuesday's game was an emotional farewell for the Nigerian midfielder Nosa Igiebor. Most probably Igiebor's last game for the Reds, allnigeriasoccer.com can report.
Hours before the game, Hapoel were sweating on the fitness of the 21-year-old after he got injured at training on Monday. However, Igiebor passed a late fitness test and was preferred in the team ahead of the Isreal international Toto Tamuz.
Igiebor's last gasp winner deep in stoppage time handed Hapoel Tel Aviv the Cup. The Reds had taken the lead through Aormos on 58'. Four minutes later, Maccabi Haifa's Yampolsky Eisen restored parity for the Greens.
Everybody thought the game would be settled after regulation time. Hapoel's jewel, Nosa Igiebor had other ideas, scoring arguably the most important goal of his career to hand Hapoel Tel Aviv their third State Cup on the bounce.
With a score of seven, Nosa Igiebor, who showed a lot of character throughout the game, was voted Man of the Match.
