OBI MIKEL Hopes For Munich Start
Published: May 18, 2012
Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel hopes to make up tomorrow for missing out on the 2008 Champions League final.
The Nigeria international is expecting to start in Munich.
He told the London Evening Standard: “I didn’t get to play in the final four years ago and hopefully I will this time. It was hard watching it from the sidelines but I have stayed injury free and hopefully I will be in the team on Saturday.
“What has happened to us this season and for us to get to the Champions League Final shows the character and determination in this team.
“Everyone has been writing us off but we as players and individuals know what we do for a living. Every season you’re going to have ups and downs.
“Everyone keeps saying how old we all are but players like [Frank] Lampard, Ashley [Cole] and Didier [Drogba] keep going and fighting for this team and hopefully we will end this season doing something great.
“In a way we deserve the Champions League trophy because of all the hard work we have put in but Bayern are a very good team.”
