Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent is hoping Arsenal fend off interest from Liverpool for exciting teenager Bukayo Saka.
The Anglo-Nigerian will enter the final twelve months of his contract with the Gunners in July 2020, and Arsenal are keen to tie him down for another five years, having offered the versatile winger a new deal.
Bent has admitted that Saka would be tempted by a move to Liverpool if Arsenal don't turn their fortunes around.
One of the traditional big six clubs in England, Arsenal have not featured in the last three editions of the Champions League and occupied the ninth position in the Premier League before football activities were halted in England.
"Look, I hope so because he’s (Saka) a top, top talent," Bent told Football Insider when asked if Arsenal could hold off Liverpool's interest.
"He’s an absolutely great talent but we know what it’s like.
"It’ll get to a point where if Arsenal aren’t progressing at the rate he’s thinking, then we’ve seen it happen before.
"We hope he doesn’t go anywhere but that’s the kind of weird predicament Arsenal are in.
"Yeah, Arsenal are a massive club but they’re not challenging for anything whereas Liverpool are challenging for all trophies on all fronts.
"It’s a difficult one, being an Arsenal fan I hope he doesn’t go anywhere."
Saka has made 29 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this term, including 21 starts.
