Son Of Former Super Eagles Defender Reacts After Completing Transfer To Aston Villa

Ruben Shakpoke has taken to social media to express his happiness at completing his transfer to Premier League club Aston Villa.

The teenage striker ended a five-year affiliation with Norwich City after putting pen to paper on a scholarship deal with Aston Villa.

Football runs in his family as his father, Jero Shakpoke played professionally for Reggiana, Bologna, OGC Nice, Varese and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise among others before hanging up his boots.

Jero Shakpoke was earmarked by ex-Nigeria coach Bora Milutinović to be the Super Eagles first choice right-back at the 1998 World Cup, only for him to suffer a career threatening injury in a pre-World Cup friendly against Netherlands eight days before Nigeria's opener.

"Proud moment for me and my family to have signed a contract with @avfcofficial," Shakpoke posted on Instagram.

"The hard work only continues, excited to see what the future holds with this amazing club. Can only thank God for this opportunity and pray to achieve great things here".

Ruben Shakpoke attracted interest from Dutch giants PSV before agreeing terms with Aston Villa.
