Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has highlighted what sets Ademola Lookman apart from the club's other attacking options like Julián Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann following the Nigerian forward's impressive debut against Real Betis.
Lookman announced himself in style, scoring once and providing an assist as Atlético thrashed Real Betis 5-0 to book a place in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey.
The Super Eagles star was a constant threat throughout the encounter, showcasing pace, flair, and composure in the final third.
Speaking after the match, Simeone praised Lookman's qualities, stressing that his one-on-one ability gives Atlético something different in attack.
"His characteristics speak for themselves; he's a different kind of player than any of the others we have," Diego Simeone was quoted as saying by Europe Press.
"He's more of a specialist in one-on-one situations than in link-up play, although he has that ability."
The Argentine tactician added that Lookman's versatility allows him to operate across several attacking roles, while also hailing his immediate impact against Betis.
"That allows us to play him in different positions. We're getting to know each other little by little, and today he had a very positive impact on the team," he added.
"The team felt it, and I think he felt good too. Hopefully, we can help him become an even better player, and he can help us grow as a team," Simeone concluded.
Despite his standout performance, Lookman was substituted in the 79th minute, with Obed Vargas coming on to see out the closing stages of the match.
The Nigerian international will now be hoping to make his home debut when Atlético Madrid face Real Betis again on Sunday in a La Liga encounter.
