Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye will not be coached by legendary English football tactician Roy Hodgson next season when he returns to parent club Watford.
Okoye joined the Hornets on a five-and-a-half-year deal in the January transfer window but was immediately loaned back to Sparta Rotterdam to complete the season.
The future of fellow Nigeria internationals Oghenekaro Etebo and William Troost-Ekong are up in the air, while Nigeria youth international Tom Dele-Bashiru is wanted back at the Hornets upon the completion of his loan deal though he's attracting interest from clubs in the Championship.
Hodgson was appointed Watford coach in January and his brief was to avoid relegation from the Premier League but they could be demoted as early as this weekend if they lose to Crystal Palace as they trail eighteenth-placed Everton by ten points four matches to the end of the season.
Hodgson has revealed that he will draw the curtain on his coaching career at the end of the season after coming out of retirement to manage the Vicarage Road outfit.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Hodgson stated : "Obviously, it's a short-term [deal]. Certainly, I made it clear [to the Watford board] it would need to be a short-term one between now and the end of the season.
"I took that job on and came out of retirement to do that particular job.
"Now that job has unfortunately ended. I've enjoyed my time doing the job.
"I don't think I shall be putting my name forward anymore for further sorties in the world of Premier League football".
Okoye is hoping to follow in the footsteps of retired Wolverhampton
Wanderers star Carl Ikeme by becoming the second Nigerian
goalkeeper to feature in the English Premier League.
