Anglo-Nigerian winger Shola Shoretire was registered on Manchester United's Europa League roster a day before Umar Sadiq's Real Sociedad visited Old Trafford.
The England U19 international of Nigerian descent missed out entirely on the matchday squad on Thursday evening.
Assuming Shoretire was included in the matchday 23 by manager Erik ten Hag, he would have been in contention to set a new Manchester United record.
According to the official website of the Red Devils, 19-year-old striker Charlie McNeill set a new Manchester United record when he came on to make his senior debut - being the first Academy player to be handed his debut by new manager Erik ten Hag.
The previous five debutants under Ten Hag were non-academy players namely Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Antony, who joined the club in the summer.
Shoretire made his first team bow in the 2020-2021 season, coming off the bench in the 88th minute of a 3-1 win over Newcastle United on February 21, 2021.
Four days after his senior debut, the academy product became United's youngest ever player in European competition aged 17 years and 23 days when he featured off the bench against Real Sociedad.
Shoretire has received twelve call-ups for first team games, tasting action on five occasions, including debuts in the Champions League, Europa League and Premier League.
