Everton U23 coach David Unsworth has explained why Dennis Adeniran has been deployed on the right flank in several games for the Toffees this season.
A former England U19 international, Adeniran started his career as a striker at Fulham before being converted into a central midfield role.
The 20-year-old has flourished in his new role as a winger especially in recent games, providing the assist in the draw with PSV in a Premier League International Cup clash on Wednesday and opened his account for the season in the derby against Liverpool yesterday.
"With young Tyler's [Onyango] form, we felt he really had to play as well, for his long-term development it's great experience for him getting the early minutes he's getting,'' Unsworth said to Liverpool Echo.
"We've lost Josh Bowler, we've lost Nathan Broadhead, we've lost real attacking threat out wide.
"It's an area where Dennis can play and we felt could exploit him in those areas with his pace, power and direct threat.
"That [vs Liverpool] was his best performance of the season."
Adeniran is believed to be close to making his debut for the Everton having trained with the first team several times in the 2019-2020 campaign.
Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche faced the media on Thursday, two days before his side's Premier League trip to Anfield to face Liverpool, and provided a fitness update on his squad.
