Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed that Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo left him with an injury during Fulham's 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford over the weekend.
Iwobi, a key figure for Marco Silva’s side this season, played the full 90 minutes as Fulham staged a late fightback, only to be undone by a stoppage-time strike from Benjamin Sesko.
Speaking on his Alexander Yaa Digg podcast, Iwobi showed off the injured finger while singling out Mainoo for his strength, attributing it humorously to the midfielder’s Ghanaian roots.
“Shout-out to Kobbie Mainoo. But Kobbie, you finished my hand. Kobbie, you absolutely finished my hand. This guy has got Ghanaian strength.”
The Nigerian international praised Fulham’s overall performance but expressed mixed feelings about the refereeing decisions and the use of VAR.
“Reflecting on the game, it was a good game, we’d done well to get back into the game. Before that, VAR had done us dirty,” he added.
“It kind of saved us because they didn’t get a pen, but Samuel [Chukwueze]’s arm… I don’t know if he was offside.”
Iwobi also highlighted teammate Kevin Santos Lopes, who scored his first goal for Fulham to briefly level the score, describing it as “a mad goal.”
“It was a good performance to bring it back. Shout out to Kevin, getting his first goal, what a goal by the way. That was a mad goal.”
He further commended Raul Jimenez for his composure from the penalty spot, while acknowledging the disappointment of conceding in the dying moments.
”It was a good performance and obviously Raul [Jimenez] doesn’t miss from the penalty spot. Obviously, we felt hard done by with them scoring in the last minute of the game,” he concluded.
Iwobi has been a consistent performer for Fulham this season, contributing two goals and two assists in 18 league appearances.
He will aim to recover from the finger injury and continue his strong form as Fulham seek to return to winning ways against Everton.
