Former Super Eagles and Marseille defender Taye Taiwo has welcomed Tochukwu Nnadi to the French Ligue 1 side, celebrating the Nigerian midfielder’s high-profile transfer.
In a heartfelt video message shared on Marseille’s official social media channels, Taiwo addressed Nnadi directly, offering both congratulations and words of encouragement.
“Hi Nnadi congratulation brother. Welcome to Marseille you know I just want to say I wish you all the best and I will see you soon. You know say Naija no dey carry last. All the best brother. See you soon. Ciao. Yeah,” he said, emphasizing the pride of seeing another Nigerian succeed in European football.
Taiwo, who enjoyed a successful six-year stint at Marseille from 2005 to 2011, has remained a respected figure at the club, making his message particularly significant for Nnadi.
Nnadi responded warmly, expressing gratitude for Taiwo’s words and the support shown to him ahead of this new chapter in his career.
“I'm just going to say thank you so much to Uncle Taiwo. This message means a lot to me and like he said Naija no dey carry last. So come on Naija,” he said, highlighting the shared sense of national pride between the two players.
The 22-year-old midfielder, born in Ihiagwa, Imo State, recently completed his move to Marseille from Belgian Pro League side Zulte Waregem.
In Belgium, he had established himself as a hardworking presence in midfield, attracting attention from several European clubs with his defensive ability and tactical versatility.
Marseille confirmed the transfer on Monday, February 2, just hours before the winter window closed.
The arrival of Nnadi at Marseille not only continues the growing trend of Nigerian talent in Europe but also connects a generational link between him and Taiwo, whose legacy at the club remains celebrated by fans.
