Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is set to undergo routine medical examinations following a thigh injury sustained during Nigeria’s international camp in Turkey, according to a report by Messaggero Veneto, via Tuttomercatoweb.
The 26‑year‑old goalkeeper suffered the knock in training ahead of Nigeria’s friendly against Jordan, leading to his withdrawal from the matchday squad.
The injury, which occurred during preparations for the Antalya fixture, ruled Okoye out of the game, with teammate Francis Uzoho stepping in as Nigeria’s starting goalkeeper in his absence.
The injury comes at a critical juncture for both Okoye. He had recently re‑established himself in the Super Eagles setup, featuring in Nigeria’s 2‑1 win over Iran before the setback.
The former Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper is expected in Udine today for a series of routine medical checks with Juventus’ specialists.
Though he won’t join first-team training this afternoon, the evaluations will shed light on the severity of his thigh injury and chart a path back to full fitness.
While an immediate return to action is not on the cards, the club remains cautiously optimistic, hoping their shot-stopper will soon be back between the posts.
Udinese will monitor the results of the medical assessments closely to determine Okoye’s fitness for upcoming Serie A fixtures, including the Easter Monday match against Como.
