Victor Obinna Claims Ex-Inter Milan Boss Mourinho Is Not A Defensive Coach

Former Nigeria international Victor Obinna has defended his former coach at Inter Milan, Jose Mourinho, saying that the Portuguese gaffer set up his team in an offensive shape contrary to popular belief.

The Nerazzurri won the Champions League, Coppa Italia and Serie A title during the 2009-10 season with Mourinho in the dugout and the likes of Samuel Eto'o, Diego Milito and Goran Pandev leading their attack.

''He wasn’t defensive at all. He was, as a matter of fact, offensive. He always played a 4-3-3 formation, and that is nothing close to defensive. He played with three strikers,'' said Obinna to Oma Sports.

''He usually had Ibrahimovic as the centre forward, Adriano and one other. There were times where losing the game, Mourinho will take off midfielders or defenders and bring on four strikers, and we end up winning the game.

''We would be losing 2-1 or 3-1, but we would end up winning 3-2 or 4-2. It happened many times.''

According to Obinna, the management of Inter Milan decided to loan him to Malaga in the season they won the Champions League because too many strikers were in the team.
