FC Augsburg head coach Manuel Baum has praised the rapid adaptation of Nigerian youngster Uchenna Ogundu but insists the club will take a cautious approach before handing him his debut against Wolfsburg on Saturday.
Ogundu moved to the Bundesliga side after an encouraging stint with Alanyaspor, whom he had joined last summer from fellow Turkish outfit Şanlıurfaspor.
Following his arrival at Alanyaspor, the 19-year-old quickly became a fan favourite, winning supporters over with his physical strength and sharp finishing ability.
During his brief spell at the Alanya Oba Stadium, the teenage striker impressed, registering two goals and two assists in 17 league appearances.
Speaking during his press conference ahead of the clash against Wolfsburg, Baum revealed that the young forward is settling well both on and off the pitch, highlighting his positive integration within the squad.
"He's already had several German lessons, greets me with 'Servus' and is very well integrated," Baum was quoted as saying by Augsburg's official website.
The manager also pointed to the player's physical attributes, noting that his qualities have been evident during training sessions.
"You can see his strength and pace in training," he added.
Despite the encouraging signs, Baum emphasized that the club's priority is the player's long-term development rather than rushing him into competitive action.
"But we have to wait for the right time to bring in young players," the coach explained.
Ogundu will be hoping to make his debut at the Volkswagen Arena, where he will aim to showcase his qualities and help FC Augsburg secure a positive result as they push to strengthen their bid for a European place.
