'We must not lose Osula' - Berggreen urges Denmark coach amid Nigeria's interest in Newcastle forward

Danish football expert Emil Berggreen has urged Denmark coach Brian Riemer to take swift action over the international future of William Osula amid Nigeria's interest in the Newcastle United forward.

The Nigeria Football Federation want to poach Osula from Denmark, aware that he has yet to play a cap-tying game for the Scandinavian giants.

Nigeria have opened preliminary discussions with the player's representatives over the possibility of switching his international allegiance to the three-time African champions.

Meanwhile, Denmark are keen not to lose a player widely regarded as a major attacking talent for the future.

Riemer had the opportunity to secure Osula’s international future on four separate occasions this season, but opted to leave him on the bench during 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Scotland, Greece, North Macedonia and the Czech Republic.

Speaking on the situation, BT football expert Berggreen said: "I am sure that Brian Riemer will handle the situation, we must not lose William Osula".

He also stressed the importance of a proactive approach from Denmark's coach, suggesting that a personal engagement with the player could prove decisive.

"Riemer is aware of the importance of a charm offensive.  If the call reveals that there is doubt in Osula's mind, then Riemer is going to fish and chips in the Northeast of England.

"Of course, it's about emphasizing how bright Denmark's and Osula's future looks if he pulls on the red and not the green jersey."

In recent weeks, Osula has impressed, registering three goals in his last four Premier League matches.
