Sevilla forward Akor Adams has spoken ahead of Nigeria’s campaign in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which commenced on Sunday in Morocco.
The tournament marks Adams’ first AFCON appearance, and the striker expressed excitement about representing the Super Eagles on the continental stage.
Speaking to Ademola Victor TV, Adams emphasized the importance of collective effort over individual performance. “I think it's so much about the team, not so much about one player. I'm grateful to God for the privilege of being part of the team. Such a great team. From the team, I think we should expect positive outcome,” he said.
Adams also highlighted the preparation and effort the squad has put in ahead of the competition.
“We have worked hard to get to this point, and you can see through the qualifiers and everything. So now it's time for the tournament and we'll give our best,” he added.
On the tournament conditions, the forward expressed confidence in Morocco’s readiness to host the event.
“Very good. Actually, I think they're ready to host. I think everything is in place. The pitches are good. So for us now is just take advantage of the condition and play,” Adams said.
Since making his debut under coach Eric Chelle, Adams has already found the net twice for the Super Eagles.
He will be looking to continue his impressive form as Nigeria embarks on its mission to secure a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title.
The three-time Africa champions will begin their campaign against Tanzania in their opening Group C fixture on Tuesday.
Following that, the Super Eagles are set to face Tunisia and Uganda in their subsequent group stage matches.
As Nigeria aims to build momentum and assert their authority in the tournament, all eyes will be on Adams and the rest of the Super Eagles squad to see if they can translate their preparations into positive results on the pitch.
The opening game against Tanzania will provide the first indication of the team’s readiness and ambition at AFCON 2025.
