Former Southampton striker Kevin Phillips has advised Nigeria-eligible attacking midfielder Michael Olise to stay put at Reading amid speculation linking him with a departure from the Championship club.
The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and AC Milan have been credited with an interest in the promising teenager and the Royals had a bid from Leeds United knocked back in the summer transfer window.
Phillips fears Olise would find playing opportunities hard to come by if he moves to one of his suitors in the Premier League.
"He should stay at Reading for the rest of the season. Stay and help get your club promoted," said Phillips to Football Insider.
"Why would you leave? He is playing week in, week out. Is he going to play at Leeds? Probably not.
"He may come off the bench and start the odd game but it would disrupt his development."
Olise's current contract expires at the end of the 2021-2022 season and Reading have started talks over the extension of the agreement.
The 19-year-old has been in brilliant form this term, scoring 4 goals and setting up seven others in 20 league games.
