2006 Italian World Cup-winning Captain Gives His Thoughts On Napoli's Capture Of Osimhen
Legendary Italian central defender and one-time Ballon d'Or winner Fabio Cannavaro has given his thoughts on the recent signing of young Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen by Napoli.
Napoli finally confirmed the capture of the Super Eagle from Lille last week, with the Ligue 1 team set to pocket 70 million euros from the deal, 20 of which goes back to the Italian Serie A club for using four of their players as makeweight in the deal.
Osimhen was heavily linked with clubs in the English Premier League, La Liga and other Italian top-flight teams, before the Naples club won the race for his signature.
Cannavaro, who captained the Italy national team to win the 2006 World Cup, was delighted that his former international teammate turned coach Gennaro Gattuso was able to sign Osimhen after protracted negotiations.
In quotes carried by gonfialarete.com citing Tuttosport, Cannavaro said : "The investment of Napoli of 70 million for Victor Osimhen convinces me.
"It's a nice shot! I am happy for Rino Gattuso. He really wanted to have this player and he arrived at Napoli".
Napoli's new number 9, Osimhen has inked a
five-year deal and will earn around 20 million euros over the duration
of his contract.
