Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye returned to action in fine form as Udinese secured a 0-0 draw against Como in their Serie A Round 31 clash on Monday.
The 26-year-old , sidelined last week with a thigh injury picked up during international duty, was crucial in maintaining Udinese’s clean sheet at the Bluenergy Stadium.
Okoye had featured in Nigeria’s 2–1 friendly win over Iran earlier in the international window and impressed before picking up the injury during preparations for the second friendly.
His withdrawal from the match against Jordan raised concerns about his fitness, but Udinese’s coaching staff were satisfied with his recovery, handing him a starting role against Como.
Throughout the match, Okoye was tested on multiple occasions, showing excellent command of his area.
In the 10th minute, he blocked a powerful low shot from Maximo Perrone, and later intercepted a dangerous pass from Lucas Da Cunha to halt a potential scoring opportunity.
He also comfortably handled attempts from Nico Paz and a header from Sergi Roberto that narrowly went over the bar, ensuring Udinese’s goal remained intact.
Udinese’s defence, frequently under pressure, benefited greatly from Okoye’s confident positioning and communication.
His timely interventions gave the backline reassurance, allowing them to clear threatening crosses and block shots from Como attackers, including Mergim Vojvoda and Anastasios Douvikas.
The clean sheet marks a significant boost for Udinese, who have been looking to consolidate their mid-table standing.
For Okoye, it signals a successful comeback after a brief injury scare.
