Akwa United, Warri Wolves Stalemate In Uyo
Warri Wolves squandered their lead to eventually draw 1-1 with Akwa
United in a match played at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium on
Sunday.<br /><br />Akwa United went into the clash looking to win at home, while Wolves were out to register their 6th victory of the season<br /><br />The
opening stages of the encounter were quiet, as both Akwa and Wolves
struggled to keep possession in the final third and create good
goalscoring opportunities.<br /><br />In the 21st minute, Aniekpeno Udoh’ s effort was well saved by Wolves goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.<br /><br />Akwa
United goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode produced a stunning save to deny
Seasiders central midfielder Michael Okoyah from close range on the
half-hour mark.<br /><br />At this stage, the away side looked lively going
forward, and in the 32nd minute Gbolahan Salami’ s powerful shot almost
went in.<br /><br />However, the Promise Keepers were able to contain the Seasiders up until the match referee blew his whistle for half-time.<br /><br />Wolves were forced to make a change as goal minder Akpeyi was taken off due to injury.<br /><br />His replacement Andrew Tejiri produced two stunning saves in the opening 20 minutes of the second half.<br /><br />Twenty-nine
minutes into the second half, Wolves broke the deadlock through Salami,
who hit the back of the net with from close range after he was set-up
by Stanley Dimgba.<br /><br />The hosts responded almost immediately with
Abdulazeez Awakan latching on to a mishit clearance to rifle home from
18 yards to make it 1-1 in the 79th minute.<br /><br />With time running
out, both teams showed some sense of urgency in the final third as they
were looking for the winner, but they had to settle for a draw as they
