'Big man like you crying like a baby' - Iwobi teases Bassey over penalty-winning fall in Fulham's win at Sunderland

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has playfully taunted teammate Calvin Bassey following the Nigerian defender's dramatic reaction to winning a penalty in Fulham's 3-1 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

The moment came as Bassey attempted to connect with a free kick inside the box but was held back by Sunderland forward Brian Brobbey.

The 26-year-old went to the ground, appealing for a penalty, which was awarded after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.

Raul Jimenez confidently converted from the spot to double Fulham's lead and put the visitors in control.

Meanwhile, Iwobi sealed the victory with a clinical finish, completing a brilliant counter-attack in the final moments of the game.

Reacting to the win, Iwobi emphasized the importance of the victory, noting that the Stadium of Light was a tough place to win.

"Three points on the board. Tough place to go and win; it was a second defeat at the Stadium of Light. I think that was our fourth away win; we need to be more consistent," Iwobi said on the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast.

While praising Jimenez for his two goals, Iwobi also teased Bassey, joking that his tumble in the penalty box looked like a "big man crying like a baby."

"Got the result, shout out to Raul, two goals. The way Calvin dropped in the penalty box, big man like you crying like a baby," he mocked.

Iwobi also acknowledged Harry's role in the counterattack, admitting that he was running for his life, though it appeared as if he was moving in slow motion.

"Anyway, got the pen. Raul doesn't miss a penalty, 13 from 13, sharp shooter. Then shout out to Harry on the counterattack; I was running for my dear life, but it looked like I was running in slow motion," Iwobi added.

"But we moved, I got there in the end. Harry saw me, played a nice ball in behind the defence, and I managed to dink it over the keeper's outstretched leg."

The Nigerian midfielder expressed regret to Emile-Smith Rowe for missing a first-half chance, explaining that his left foot hadn't been properly warmed up.

"Speaking of my left foot, I know Emile is going to be watching this. I do apologise, there was one counterattack we had in the first half, but my left foot wasn't warm. I hope the injury on Kebin's foot is not too bad."

With the win, Fulham have returned to the top half of the Premier League and will be eager to maintain their form, as they push for a European spot by the end of the season.
