Super Eagles central defender Leon Balogun is the latest Nigerian player to be snapped up by Glasgow Rangers, with the Scottish Premiership side confirming his signing on a free transfer this afternoon.
Last summer, The Light Blues acquired Joe Aribo from Charlton Athletic and loaned Sheyi Ojo from Liverpool, before signing Golden Eaglets invitee Malcolm Ebiowei and Calvin Bassey from Arsenal and Leicester City respectively.
Balogun has inked a one-year deal with Rangers, with the traditional Scottish club having an option for a further year.
Commenting on the signing of the Nigeria international, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, who coaches Rangers first team, was delighted that the club bagged themselves an experienced player with no fitness concerns.
He told Rangers official webpage : "I am pleased to secure the signature of Leon. He is an experienced centre half who will add strength and depth to our squad.
"His experience in the Premier League as well as his international pedigree strengthens our squad and will assist in the development of our young defenders.
"Leon has just finished a round of competitive fixtures with Wigan so will hit the ground running. He’s a positive and bright character and we are looking forward to his influence around the group".
For the upcoming season which begins with a home game against Aberdeen, Balogun will wear the number 26 jersey.
