Odion Ighalo is of the opinion that Manchester United signed him last January because of his exploits during his time with Watford.
The former Nigeria international was at Vicarage Road for two and a half seasons, scoring 39 goals in 100 appearances before sealing a big money move to Chinese Super League outfit Changchun Yatai in January 2017.
Ighalo formed a formidable partnership with Troy Deeney at the Hornets and the pair have maintained contact through social media.
Manchester United had four strikers on their transfer shortlist and eventually settled for Ighalo on transfer deadline day in January 2020 after a move to bring back academy product Joshua King to Old Trafford fell through.
"I had a wonderful time in Watford, I was happy, and it was a good club for me. We had good moments together," said Ighalo to Watford's official website.
"Especially striking with Troy Deeney was a pleasure because he’s a good guy and a good player. Sometimes me and Troy message on Instagram, we keep in touch once in a while."
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer continued : "Me playing for Manchester United today, they saw what I did with Watford in the Premier League, that’s why I have the opportunity to be here today, so my story would not be complete in my career, my life, without mentioning Watford".
Ighalo will be hoping to be involved when Manchester United tackle his former employer Watford in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday, January 9.
