Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has weighed into the racial abuse directed at the Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham following his penalty loss to Liverpool in Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul, Turkey which the Reds won 5-4 on penalties after 2-2 in regulation time.

Mills speaking on Sky Sports News on Friday  believes Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard should play the England youth international with Nigerian heritage who has been previously courted by the Nigeria Football Federation on Sunday when they face Leicester City parading Nigeria duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho in order not to damage his confidence.

"I will pick Tammy Abraham to play against Leicester City. He's a quality striker and if Lampard don't play him on Sunday that could affect his confidence," Mills said on Sky Sports News.

"He's quality. He got into good positions against Manchester United and was unlucky not to have scored.

"I hope this (racial abuse on social media) don't affect him. He  needs to get it off his mind as soon as possible," the pundit turned football commentator stressed.

Mills picked his preferred starting XI in a 4-2-3-1 formation that contained Kepa Arrizabalaga (goal); Caesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rüdiger, Andreas Christensen, Emerson (defence); N'golo Kante, Jorginho (defensive midfield); Pedro, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic (central midfield/wings); Abraham (attack).

Chelsea lost several scoring when they faced 'top six' rivals Manchester United on Sunday, 11 August, with Abraham hitting a cracking shot that came off the woodwork in the first half.

Chelsea's clash against Leicester will kick off 4.30pm Nigerian time on Sunday.
