Merlin Polzin has provided a positive update on defender Jordan Torunarigha following his recent head injury, revealing that the player is expected to resume training on Thursday.
The Nigeria international sustained a blow to the head during Hamburg's 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt at the Deutsche Bank Park.
Torunarigha was eventually substituted after appearing dazed, with Danish forward Yussuf Poulsen replacing him for the final seven minutes of the encounter.
Following the incident, the 28-year-old underwent medical assessments and missed Wednesday's training session as the squad began preparations for their next Bundesliga fixture.
Speaking to Hamburger Abendblatt, Polzin expressed optimism that Torunarigha would rejoin the team on Thursday.
"I hope he can rejoin training on Thursday," the coach revealed.
Torunarigha has played a key role for the Bundesliga side this season.
The defender, who joined Hamburg from KAA Gent last summer, has made 23 league appearances as the club secured their Bundesliga status.
Ahead of the clash against SC Freiburg, Torunarigha will be hoping to return to full training and maintain his impressive form for Hamburg.
