Super Eagles forward gets 'Jay-Jay Ejuke' nickname after mesmerising display v Real Sociedad

Super Eagles forward Chidera Ejuke has been dubbed 'Jay-Jay Ejuke' by Spanish sports daily AS following a dazzling display in Sevilla’s 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Monday night, with his performance drawing comparisons to Nigerian legend Austin 'Jay-Jay' Okocha.

Ejuke, a surprise starter at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, delivered one of his most influential performances of the season, combining flair, creativity, and high work rate to help Sevilla secure a crucial win that lifted them further away from the relegation zone.

The Nigeria international was particularly impressive in both phases of the game. Defensively, he won eight ground duels, made one tackle, and recorded 11 recoveries.

Offensively, he created one big chance, completed five successful dribbles that consistently unsettled the Real Sociedad defence, and registered three shots on goal.

He was eventually substituted late in the match, but his impact had already been firmly established as one of Sevilla’s standout performers on the night.

The display is expected to serve as a major confidence boost for Ejuke, who has struggled for consistent game time since the start of the campaign.

The 28-year-old has managed one goal and one assist in 24 league appearances, with only five starts amid 19 substitute outings.

Sevilla will now hope the winger can build on this momentum when they face Espanyol in their next league fixture on Saturday.
