Update: Ola Aina misses Nottingham Forest training ahead of UEL clash with Aston Villa

Super Eagles fullback Ola Aina was absent from Nottingham Forest training on Wednesday as the club intensified preparations for the second leg of their UEFA Europa League clash against Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports.

The Nigeria international sustained an injury during the first leg at the City Ground, where Forest secured a narrow 1-0 advantage heading into the decisive return fixture.

Since picking up the setback, the former Chelsea defender has also been ruled out of Forest’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening.

His potential absence on Thursday is expected to be a significant setback for manager Viktor Pereira, who is aiming to guide the team to a positive result and secure progression to the final of the competition.

Aina has enjoyed a standout campaign for Forest despite the club’s struggles for consistency in the Premier League, contributing a solid defensive presence alongside one assist in 28 appearances across all competitions.

Beyond the club level, his injury also poses concerns for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle ahead of the Unity Cup tournament in London later this month.

The Malian tactician will be aiming to guide the Super Eagles in their defence of the Unity Cup title, which they won last year at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Nigeria will compete against India, Jamaica, and Zimbabwe in the friendly tournament scheduled to take place from May 26 to 30 in London.
