Hamburg head coach Merlin Polzin has shared what impressed him most about Philip Otele’s performance in the 3–2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the 27th round of matches in the Bundesliga.
Otele, who started the encounter at Signal Iduna Park, made an impression with his direct style of play and attacking intent.
The forward caused problems for Dortmund’s defence, using his pace and physicality to drive forward on the counter and engage in one-on-one duels.
In quotes relayed by LigaInsider, Polzin expressed satisfaction with the winger’s contribution despite the result.
"Philip impressed in the Dortmund game (2-3) with his counter-attacks and the one-on-one duels he consistently seeks out and wins. That's a quality we need for our style of play," Polzin said.
The tactician further underlined Otele’s importance in executing the team’s attacking structure, particularly on the flanks.
"We want to cover the width on the left flank to create space for teammates. He brings tremendous added value there," he explained.
Otele, currently on loan from FC Basel, has continued to show promise since his arrival during the winter transfer window.
The 27-year-old has registered one goal and one assist in eight league appearances, steadily integrating into Hamburg’s attacking setup.
With a crucial clash against Werder Bremen on the horizon, Otele will be eager to build on his recent performances as he looks to strengthen his case for a permanent move to the club at the end of the season.
