'I prefer the old one' - Alex Iwobi has his say on Super Eagles new Nike kits

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has spoken out on Nigeria’s 2026 kit release, revealing he personally prefers the previous design ahead of the team’s recent friendlies.

The new collection, unveiled by global sportswear giant Nike, has sparked debate with its vibrant light green home and away options.

The new kits, announced in late March, feature a light green home jersey with darker panel detailing, alongside an away shirt decorated with bold green flame-like patterns on a white base — a modern twist on Nigeria’s traditional colours.

These designs have already been seen on the pitch during the Super Eagles’ 2‑1 victory over Iran and their 2‑2 draw with Jordan in Turkey.

Speaking on the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast ahead of the Iran clash, Iwobi vividly conveyed his first impressions of the training attire tied to the new collection, likening its appearance to something striking and unconventional on the training field.

He said, “The training kit is bright green, looking like highlighters with the pink stripe on the side. That’s the new kit for training.”

Reflecting on the new designs and their place in Nigeria’s footballing tradition, the Fulham midfielder expressed his personal view on the kits and how they might influence the team’s performance.

He added, “Let me know what you think of the new kit. Me, personally, I think I prefer the old one, but we will see if this one can bring us luck in today’s game.”
