Trabzonspor secured a 3-0 victory over Fethiyespor in a Turkish Cup clash at Papara Park on Tuesday, courtesy of goals from Ernest Muçi, Paul Onuachu and Anthony Nwakaeme.
The match was not without controversy as the visitors had a goal disallowed in the 63rd minute.
Raşit Yöndem seemed to have scored from a pass by Melih Okutan, seemingly giving Fethiyespor the lead, but after a VAR review, the goal was ruled out for offside, keeping the score at 0-0.
Alongside goalscorers Onuachu and Nwakaeme, centre-back Chibuike Nwaiwu also featured, helping Trabzonspor secure a clean sheet for the first time since joining the club roughly a month ago.
Reflecting on the match, Nwaiwu commented on both the team’s performance and the disallowed goal.
"I can actually say that we had a good match. In the first half, we put up a great fight to find the goal, but we couldn't reflect that in the score. Only the goal was missing," Nwaiwu was quoted as saying by Star.
"In the second half, we took advantage of the opportunities we had and when we scored, it was a good match for us. There's a real family atmosphere in the team. I've truly joined a family. This makes my adaptation to the team much easier.
"I was very close to the ball. I saw that the ball went out of bounds, so I knew that even if it had been a goal, it wouldn't have been given."
Trabzonspor have gone unbeaten since Nwaiwu joined from Wolfsberger AC, recording four wins and a draw, with the Nigerian central defender quickly making his presence felt.
