Super Eagles defender Elderson Echiejile made his long-awaited debut for Sporting Gijon in their La Liga clash with Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night.<br /><br />The Monaco loanee was finally included in the starting XI of the Asturias-based club after failing to make their 18-man squad for league matches against Alaves and Celta de Vigo, while he was named on the substitutes bench against CD Legan&eacute;s and Atl&eacute;tico Madrid.<br /><br />It was a debut to forget for Echiejile, with Sporting Gijon conceding six goals and the left wing-back was penalized a couple of times for fouling Rafinha. <br /><br />Goals from Messi, Rodriguez (OG), Luis Suarez, Alcacer, Neymar and Rakitic helped Barcelona to register their 17th win of the season, while <span class="hidden-xxs" data-type="full">Carlos</span> Castro managed to pull a goal back for the visitors in the 21st minute. <br /><br />Echiejile has been named in the latest Nigeria roster for friendly matches with Senegal and Burkina Faso later this month. <br /><br />Igho Kingsley <br /><br />Photo Credit : realsporting.com<br />
