Obafemi Martins Scoops Goal Of The Year Award

Obafemi Martins&rsquo;s stunning strike against San Jose Earthquakes has been voted the 2014 AT&amp;T MLS Goal of the Year.<br /><br />The former Nigeria international polled more than 50 percent of the votes cast, beating off competition from Portland Timbers midfielder Will Johnson (28.23 %), ex Arsenal icon Thierry Henry (13.22%) and New England Revolution ace Lee Nguyen (6.73 %) .<br /><br />The 30 - year - old struck after 8 minutes to hand Seattle Sounders all three points in a week 11 tie at CenturyLink Field.<br /><br />That strike was the most eye catching out of the 64 goals that were selected by MLS staff and voted on by fans.<br /><br />The ex Inter Milan and Newcastle star missed out on the MLS MVP award to LA Galaxy striker Robbie Keane.<br /><br /><br />
