Godfrey Oboabona has paid tribute to Kenneth Omeruo and highlighted that the one thing he likes the most about his Super Eagles defensive partner is that they understand each other on the pitch because they used to be teammates at Sunshine Stars before the latter joined Chelsea, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Oboabona and Omeruo had a combined age of 42 years when they both played key roles for the Super Eagles at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, partnering each other in defence in the last five games as the team coached by late Stephen Keshi won the tournament for a third time.
Looking back at the career of Omeruo in the last seven years, Oboabona said on Instagram Live : "Of course it is amazing, I want to thank God for his life, he's a very good guy, a friend of mine.
"We played together in Sunshine Stars before so he was my friend before the Super Eagles and he's still my friend. He is a very good player, he is strong and has a good mentality. "
The Dinamo Batumi star added : "This is one thing I like about him because when you have a central defender and you both understand each other, the work is easier, we understand each other, if I go right he knows what to do, if he goes right I know what to do, so we were like twins on the field of play. We understand each other very well.
"I want to thank God for his life and I hope by the special grace of God he keeps moving forward."
The same year Nigeria won their last Africa Cup of Nations, Oboabona and Omeruo started all the three matches played by the national team at the Confederations Cup, before making their World Cup debuts the following year in Brazil.
