Premier League Cup: Obi on target as West Ham make history with win over Blackburn

Danish-Nigerian forward Chuk Obi was on target as West Ham United defeated Blackburn Rovers 3-2 on Wednesday night at the Wham Stadium to win the U17 Premier League Cup.

With the victory, West Ham made history by becoming the first academy side to win the Premier League Cup at U21, U18 and U17 level.

West Ham took an early lead through Jude Longman in the 12th minute, but Blackburn quickly responded with an equaliser from Oliver Flynn at minute 18.

Harvey Higgins then put Rovers ahead in the 39th minute after a cross from Flynn.

West Ham levelled just before the hour  mark when Joe Scanlon set up Chuk Obi to finish decisively.

With a minute of normal time remaining, Joel Kerr scored the game-winning goal, heading home a delivery from Harry Montague.

A tall and strong striker, Chuk shares a similar playing profile with his brother, Manchester United attacker Chido Obi.

The 2009-born forward has impressed in this season's U18 Premier League, scoring seven goals in 16 appearances, and also made his debut in the prestigious FA Youth Cup against Preston North End last November.

Obi, who has caps for Denmark U17s, joined West Ham at U15 level after leaving Arsenal.
