England Move To Beat Nigeria To Chelsea's Child Genius Mendel-Idowu
Published: December 16, 2019The English Football Association are presently in pole position ahead of the Nigeria Football Federation for the services of Chelsea wonderkid Tudor Mendel-Idowu, allnigeriasoccer.com understands.
The FA have identified Mendel-Idowu as one of the promising players in his age group and promptly handed him a call-up to the U15 National Team for a friendly against Republic of Ireland on Sunday.
The Chelsea starlet started on the bench as Jason Donohue's squad registered an impressive 3-1 win against the Young Lions at St George's Park.
While England have taken the first steps to provisionally cap-tie the teenager, it is understood that the Nigerian Federation have not yet approached the player.
Nigeria U15s coach Usman Haruna recently informed this website that his priority is to have a squad dominated by homegrown players.
Tudor Mendel-Idowu participated in the British reality competition, Child Genius of the Year 2014, finishing in second place.
This season, the English Football Association cap-tied Chelsea first team stars Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham, while Faustino Anjorin and Ike Ugbo have played competitive matches for the Young Lions.
