Toronto FC Striker Eligible For Super Eagles Reveals Details Of Talks With United States Head Coach
Young Toronto FC striker Ayo Akinola has been arguably the standout player of the MLS is Back Tournament, scoring five goals in three matches and this has raised speculation that he could be called up to the United States senior national team in the coming months.

The 20-year-old is eligible to represent the Super Eagles through his parents as well as Canada, where he was raised.

Akinola has revealed that he held talks with United States Men's National Team coach Gregg Berhalter at the MLS is Back Tournament.

"He’s just given me words of encouragement. Most of the time we were just talking about the tournament and what I can improve on," Akinola told ESPN (via mlssoccer.com).

"Just in my games, just in between the two games that he’s seen. It’s not really much about the national team, but just the focal point of watching this tournament.

"I think just for me personally, just thinking of the national team and this tournament, it creates too much havoc. I feel like I should just focus on one thing and then the thing after."

Coach Berhalter has suggested that Akinola would be called up to the United States Olympic squad before he is considered for the Stars and Stripes.
