'Why do you want me to retire?' - Ahmed Musa not thinking of quitting Super Eagles
Published: March 24, 2023Ahmed Musa has insisted that he plans to continue playing for the Super Eagles amid calls from some quarters for the former CKSA Moscow star to quit the team.
Many critics have suggested that the two-time World Cupper should retire from the Super Eagles because he is not as relevant as he used to be.
Despite his leadership qualities off the pitch, Nigeria's record appearance maker in history with 106 caps is a bit part player these days, with his last start for the Super Eagles coming against Central African Republic in October 2021.
Musa has seen the likes of Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon and Ademola Lookman climb above him in the pecking order of wingers.
The 30-year-old made it clear that he's not considering retirement and to drive his point home, he revealed that he's getting a regular run of games at Sivasspor.
Speaking to reporters at Thursday's press conference, Musa stated : "All the people asking me to retire, when Musa was scoring goals, where are they?
"Definitely we love our country, no matter what, whoever they call they have to come. I don't have to listen to anyone, I'm the one doing my job.
"If my body wants me to stop, I stop. I am playing always with my club, why do you want me to retire in the national team?
"If the coach does not want to call me anymore that's fine, but if the coach always gives me invite, I'll always honour it.
"This is what I'm playing, this is what I know how to play and always when I come to the national team I always give my best since from day one."
The highlight of Musa's career as a Super Eagles player was helping the national team win their third Africa Cup of Nations in 2013.
