Chelsea in negotiations with talented Anglo-Nigerian winger over new contract
Published: June 17, 2023The future of talented England youth international of Nigerian descent, Tudor Mendel-Idowu at Chelsea is yet to be resolved, less than two weeks before the expiration of his contract.
Mendel-Idowu has been included on the official list of Chelsea players retained for the 2023-2024 season.
The 18-year-old has been offered his first professional contract by the Blues but nothing has been signed as of now.
Writing on Twitter, Chelsea insider, Chelsea Youth, has informed that an offer has been made to Tudor Mendel-Idowu and negotiations will continue regarding his future.
The 2005-born player has been part of Chelsea since his U8 season and officially registered for the academy at U9 level.
Blessed with great dribbling ability, Mendel-Idowu made his UEFA Youth League debut against AC Milan last October and the following month, he played his first game for Chelsea's development squad in their 4-2 hammering of Peterborough United in the Papa Johns Trophy.
Overall, he netted eleven goals in all competitions for Chelsea U18s in 2022-2023, comprising six in the U18 Premier League, one in the FA Youth Cup and four in the U18 Premier League Cup.
Born in Slough to Nigerian parents, Mendel-Idowu is provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth England.
