Why Uzoho should start ahead of Nwabali in Super Eagles friendly against Mali
Published: March 24, 2024The Super Eagles will square up against Mali in their last friendly game scheduled for this international break.
It will be another opportunity for interim coach, Finidi George to assess the players, particularly those that were given few minutes or those that didn't play against Ghana.
A position where George should take a look ahead of the clash with the Eagles on Tuesday night is the goalkeeping position.
It is established that Stanley Nwabali is the first choice at the moment but there should be preparation for a time when the Chippa United shot stopper will be unavailable for selection.
Thus, there can't be a better time to give Francis Uzoho another opportunity to prove himself that he still deserves himself in the team and also give him some confidence that he has not been neglected.
Due to the nature of the game against Mali, there is no harm in seeing Uzoho who is the second choice goalkeeper at the moment, man the post.
The forthcoming fixtures for the Eagles will be competitive and there would be no room for testing, thus the reason why George can afford to assess the quality of Uzoho once again.
It is suggested that if the Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper is given a chance but fails to utilize the same, then it is time to start looking elsewhere for credible alternatives.
