Manager Gernot Rohr has said that the door is open for Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel to be included in the Super Eagles squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The international future of the central midfielder has been covered in mist due to his unavailability for the national team's last five matches since the 2018 World Cup ended.
Mikel was not in the Super Eagles squad that were beaten 2-0 by South Africa on match day one of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers because he was still recovering from injury when the game was played.
''Mikel was injured, had problems with the knee, he played again and was injured again and he was not available,'' Rohr told reporters.
''I am in touch with him and the day he will be fit and ready the door is open for him.
''But you know they have to play at the club, to show us they are ready, it is the same with the captain like other players.''
Mikel was a member of the Super Eagles squads at the 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
