'That is a personal decision' - Former Super Eagles CB Sodje urges Salah to consider Saudi move

Former Super Eagles central defender Sam Sodje has urged Mohamed Salah to consider a move to Saudi Arabia after deciding to leave Liverpool at the end of the campaign.

The Liverpool winger will leave the club at the end of the campaign, despite signing a new two-year contract last summer.

Salah has been linked with moves to several clubs across Europe, Major League Soccer, and Saudi Arabia, where he has long been admired.

Speaking to Footy-Africa, Sodje emphasised that the decision ultimately rests on Salah’s personal priorities at this stage of his career.

"It depends on his mentality. Does he still want to go and compete at the highest level? Does he want to stay in Europe, or does he just want to go and relax and get more money?" Sodje revealed.

He, however, advised the former Roma winger to consider a move to Saudi Arabia, citing the significant financial security it offers.

"If you ask me, because of the life after sport that I know, I would prefer him going to Saudi Arabia to make some more money. But that is a personal decision."

Sodje also backed Salah’s timing, noting that the forward has given his all to Liverpool and departs with his legacy intact.

"No, no, I think it’s perfectly right. I think he has given his best, and I think the club as well, they understand where he is. There’s nothing wrong with him saying it now.

"The fans will miss him, the Premier League will miss him, but I don’t think he has any bad blood.

"I think he’s going at the right time. It’s always nice to go on a high, and I think he’s going on a high."

The 33-year-old Salah has registered 10 goals and nine assists in 34 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

With the summer transfer window approaching, Salah will be eager to make the right decision about his future as he enters the final years of his career.
