'The result was a shame' - Adams insists officiating not to blame for Sevilla's loss to Real Oviedo

Super Eagles forward Akor Adams delivered a candid assessment of Sevilla’s struggles following their 1–0 defeat to Real Oviedo in La Liga on Sunday, a result that intensified pressure on the Andalusian side as they fight to avoid relegation.

The loss came in the debut match of new head coach Luis García Plaza, who was brought in to arrest a worsening crisis at the club.

The only goal of the match was scored by Federico Viñas, whose precise finish proved decisive.

The challenge was compounded when Sevilla was reduced to ten men following a first-half red card, leaving the team struggling to implement their attacking strategies.

Reflecting on Sevilla’s disappointing performance at Oviedo, Adams told the club's official website: “The result was a shame. It wasn't what we had prepared with the new manager, and we have to reset and forget this result as soon as possible,” expressing his frustration over the gap between the team’s tactical plans and what actually happened on the field.

The former Montpellier player also addressed external factors, clarifying that the defeat was not due to officiating.

He added: “We didn't lose because of the referees, but we had several incidents that could have gone against us."

García Plaza replaced Matías Almeyda, who was dismissed after a poor run that saw Sevilla win just once in eight league matches, leaving the team perilously close to the relegation zone.

For Adams and his teammates, the match at Oviedo was intended to mark a new beginning.

Instead, the defeat extended Sevilla’s winless streak and intensified concerns over their ability to escape the La Liga relegation battle.
