Versatile Chelsea midfielder, Tariq Uwakwe made his long-awaited return from an injury lay off for the Blues U-23s in their Premier League 2 game with Derby County on Monday evening.
Uwakwe, 19, has been sidelined with a niggling injury and was out of action since last featuring against Elfsborg in the UYL in November 2018.
Upon his return from the lengthy layoff, Blues manager Joe Edwards opted to hand him a starting berth at the Derby County Training Centre, deploying him as a central midfielder and he was lively throughout his time on the pitch.
He had a great chance to shoot his team into the lead 13 minutes into the game but his 25-yards drive was too close to trouble Joshua Barnes in the Derby goal.
The victory was their first since December 2018, severing a run of three successive defeats.
Having now returned to fitness, Uwakwe will be looking to further establish himself as a fixture in the club's second team. Their next game is a home clash against Swansea in the PL2.
